Phil Mickelson Hoping to Get Momentum Going in Time for Masters
It’s been a slow start to 2014 for Phil Mickelson. But the 43-year-old is hoping to change that before next month’s Masters, making an appearance at this weekend’s Valero Texas Open for the first time since 1992.

“I haven't had the success I've wanted to early on in this season, and I want to get in contention,” Mickelson told reporters this week. “I want to have competitive rounds and work on playing proper golf and managing the game and the rounds. This is a great opportunity to build some momentum going into Augusta.”

The Callaway player hasn’t teed off at the San Antonio event since the end of his first year as a professional back in 1992. Usually citing that the course isn’t conducive to his prep for Augusta.

But it seems Mickelson has had a change of heart and is hoping this weekend as well as the Shell Houston Open next week will be good opportunities to get his game in gear for the first major of 2014.
