Phil Mickelson Set to Defend his Scottish Open Title

Phil Mickelson Set to Defend his Scottish Open Title
American Phil Mickelson has announced he will be returning to Scotland next year.  Confirming he will once again use the Scottish Open as “practice” for the Open Championship.

It’s a formula that served the 43-year-old well last time around.  Helping him to secure not just one but two titles.  Last month Mickelson stated he would be scaling back his schedule in order to better prepare for the U.S. Open, the only major to still elude the Callaway player.

But this announcement makes it clear just how much Mickelson values the experience and preparation the Royal Aberdeen will offer before his bid to conqueror the Claret Jug for the second straight year.

“Winning the Scottish Open was a huge factor in my success the next week at the Open Championship,” said Mickelson in a statement this week.  “I was able to acclimate myself to the time change, the weather, the wind, the links conditions and all in the heat of serious competition, which itself was a big added plus.”
