2017 Solheim Cup: Des Moines to Host “Best Event” Ever Staged by LPGA
After losing for the first time on home soil the ladies American team will have their chance to regain victory against Europe when the cup returns stateside in 2017. At a press conference last week the LPGA announced the female equivalent of the Ryder Cup, will be taking place at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club in four years time.
 
LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Stacey Lewis were on hand to help LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan with the announcement. With the excitement surrounding the venue and area already beginning to gain momentum.
 
“The support that the Des Moines community has shown for golf events in the area has been tremendous,” said Whan.  “Based on the incredible welcome that we’ve already seen from the city, state, and local organizers, I have no doubt that the 2017 Solheim Cup is already on track to be the best event we’ve ever staged.”
 
In 1999 the Des Moines Golf and Country Club played host to the U.S. Senior Open with much success.  Boasting 252,000 spectators over the course of the week.  The LPGA were be hoping for similar crowd numbers as the Americans look to reclaim the Cup on their home turf.
