Tiger Woods Makes No Excuses for Another Major Miss

Tiger Woods Makes No Excuses for Another Major Miss
The quest for Tiger Woods to capture his 15th major win continues. This past weekend at Muirfield looked promising for the Nike player as he entered the final round on Sunday, just two-strokes behind the leader, Lee Westwood. But as the day wore on Woods’ game faltered as Phil Mickelson’s form shined. Leaving him to finish the tournament tied for sixth and five strokes behind Mickelson.

In the 17 majors Woods has played in since he last tackled one in 2008, he has finished in the top six of nine of them. A record most golfers would be more than pleased with. But the momentum the 37-year-old had back then meant most were certain he’d be able to break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins in no time.

It’s obvious he wants it and he refuses to make excuses for why it hasn’t happened yet. Unlike other players at the Open last weekend, Woods never complained about the East Lothian course and also didn’t mention his elbow, an injury that plagued him during the U.S. Open and kept him from competition in the lead-up to Muirfield.

The question on everybody’s mind now is whether or not Woods’ mental game is up to the challenge of another major win. “I've won 14 [majors] and in that spell where I haven't won since Torrey, I've been in there.  It's not like I've lost my card and not been playing out here. I've won some tournaments in that stretch and I've been in probably about half the majors on the back nine on Sunday with a chance to win. I just haven't done it yet but hopefully it will be in a few weeks.”
