Tiger Woods Named PGA Tour Player of the Year

Tiger Woods Named PGA Tour Player of the Year
For an astounding 11th time Tiger Woods has been voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by a group of his peers.  An honour the 37-year-old admits is “very humbling.”

It was announced last Friday that the Nike player was indeed the beneficiary of the tour’s highest distinction.  For the 10th time in his professional career Woods achieved an impressive five wins out of 16 Tour starts during the 2013 season.  While much has been made about his inability to capture a major title in the last five years, his imposing record during normal tournament play is still ridiculously strong.

“It's been an incredible year to have won five times,” said Woods afterwards. “Fantastic year all around.  It's an incredible feeling to be voted by your peers and have that respect.”

Woods’ accolade comes during a year when there were many incredible names up for the trophy, including Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and last week’s Tour Championship winner Henrik Stenson.

The 20-year-old American, Jordan Spieth picked up the Rookie of the Year Award.  Closing the season with nine top 10 finishes in 23 starts.
