World War 2 Explosive found at Northumberland Golf Course

World War 2 Explosive found at Northumberland Golf Course
Golfers at Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course got more than they bargained for this weekend when a World War 2 shell was uncovered in the 7th bunker.

Play was suspended at the Men’s Club Competition after one golfer literally raked up the device. Management was notified and immediately contacted the police, who showed up alongside the coast guard and bomb squad.

“It was all quite exciting,” Lynn Ferguson who was at the golf club told The Chronicle Live.

After setting up a 30-meter cordon around the area it was determined the shell was just a smoke bomb and nothing more dangerous.

For their part, Dunstanburgh seems more than happy to use the incident to their advantage. Advertising an “Explosive” bargain on their twitter page for those looking to get in a sneaky round tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10th. Offering golfers coffee, bacon and a round for £19 pp.
