Jordan Spieth revels back-to-back Majors with Victory at Chambers Bay

Jordan Spieth revels back-to-back Majors with Victory at Chambers Bay
He has been referred to as golf’s new golden boy and Jordan Spieth is certainly proving he’s worthy of all the hype in 2015, winning his second major of the year on Sunday at the U.S. Open.

At just 21-years-old Spieth became the youngest player to win a U.S. Open since Bobby Jones in 1923. Making him only the sixth golfer in history to win the Masters and the U.S. Open in the same year. Interestingly, the last player to accomplish that feat was Tiger Woods in 2002.

Even more impressive, the Texas native is now halfway to a career grand slam. With the Open Championship just weeks away could Spieth be on the path to securing that honour in the same season?

“You can’t win them all if you don’t win the first two,” the young golfer told reporters after his win yesterday. “So we are going to go St Andrews looking for the Claret Jug. I believe we can get it done.”

Confident but not overtly cocky, Spieth holds himself on the golf course with a poise and assertiveness of a much older player.  Maintaining his nerve as he entered the final day in a four-way tie for lead.

After bogeying his first hole of the final round, Spieth went on to card an impressive 12 pars and 2 birdies.  Allowing the Titleist player to edge out the competition, bar fellow American Dustin Johnson.

While Spieth found difficulties on the 17th, Johnson was able to produce a birdie.  Leaving the outcome down-to-the-wire on the 18th hole.  But it was Spieth who would come out on top after 30-year-old Johnson 3-putted the final hole.

“On the last green, I was thinking, ‘This is why I’m here.  This is why I play the game of golf.’  It just didn’t work out,” said Johnson afterwards.

But for Spieth the outcome was exactly what he was hoping for.  Leaving the current World Number Two looking firmly ahead to St. Andrews in July.
