The Baikal Prize Open Ice Golf Tournament is Serious Winter Golf

Next time you and your friends complain about a little wind and rain making your rounds of golf chilly, have a think about the 50 participants at this year’s Baikal Prize Open Ice Golf Tournament in Siberia.

For the past seven years organisers have been inviting golfers to partake in the two-day event each March. The setting – the gorgeous Lake Baikal that just so happens to be frozen in 60 cm of ice. Normal stroke play is the format with the golfers expected to follow the same rules and etiquette of the game as set out by the R&A. The only real difference is obviously the ice and that players use a brightly coloured ball during their rounds so it’s visible in the snow surrounding the course.
