Victory Roundup – A maiden win and an American sweep

It was an action-packed weekend of golf around the globe. As one golfer picked up his first PGA Tour title, another put to bed a winless second season on Tour. Check out the winners of this year’s Sanderson Farms Championship and the WGC-HSBC Champions. Plus, check out the gear the pros are using that you can find now at GolfOnline.

Meet the new PGA Tour Champ…

There’s a new champ on the PGA Tour, and he’s proven he’s got some nerves of steel. 23-year-old Cameron Champ cruised to his first PGA Tour title at the Country Club of Jackson, with an impressive 21-under 267 total.
A shaky start on the final day saw Champ lose a four-stroke lead, but he was able to recover on the back nine in a big way, as he birdied five of the final six holes. Champ’s wire-to-wire win comes in just his ninth start on the PGA Tour.

“The front side, there were some nerves,” Champ said after his win.  Adding, “But on the back side, I brought it all together and finished strong. It was awesome.”

Check out the gear Champ used to secure his first victory on Tour:

Driver: Ping G400 Max
Fairway Wood: Ping G400
Irons: Ping i500; Ping iBlade
Wedges: Ping Glide Forged
Putter: Ping PLD Mid Tyne 4 prototype

Schauffele’s Sophomore Slump is over…

Over in Shanghai, another winner proved he can handle the heat when it matters most. Xander Schauffele emerged victorious after a sudden-death playoff with Tony Finau to win the WGC-HSBC Champions and secure his third career title.

Schauffele started the final round three-shots behind Finau, but determination and aggressive play on the final day gave the American the perfect push to finish in a tie with Finau and force the playoff.

“When I was signing my card, I was like, ‘Oh, wow. I actually went birdie-birdie to get in the playoff,’” Schauffele told reporters afterwards. Adding, “I was just in my own world out there.”

This marks the 25-year-old’s third win on Tour, having won twice in his rookie season. His latest victory comes after a winless sophomore season and gains the golfer 550 FedEx Cup points. Schauffele’s win in Shanghai also gives the Americans a clean sweep of this year’s World Golf Championships. The first time this has happened since 2013.
