Victory Roundup – Wire-to-Wire Wins and Successfully Defended Titles

Tiger Woods might have withdrawn from the Dubai Desert Classic but that did little to dampen an incredible weekend of golf in the UAE and over in America at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Sergio Garcia gained his 12th European Tour Title while Hideki Matsuyama proved his game is hot in Arizona, winning the PGA tournament for the second consecutive year. Check out the gear used in both amazing events and available for you to buy at GolfOnline today!

Spain’s Sergio Garcia is showing happiness off the course translates to winning on the course. The newly engaged adidas golfer went wire-to-wire winning the Dubai Desert Classic with an astounding 19-under-par score. Beating Sweden’s Henrik Stenson by 3-strokes.

“Sergio played so solidly,” Stenson told reporters after Sunday’s final round. “I played three out of the four rounds with him, he put a really good score together the first day and just carried that kind of momentum throughout the whole week. He kept it tidy, took his chances when he had them and saved himself when he needed to. He did all the things you need to do to win a golf tournament, so congratulations to him. He’s a worthy champion.”

Stenson might have had nothing but praise for the 37-year-old after the event but that didn’t stop him from messing with Garcia during their round.

Garcia now re-enters the top-10 in the Official World Golf Rankings. So with a newly energised game could this finally be the year the Spaniard wins a major title?

“When I get to Augusta, the US Open, the Open, US PGA Championship, I just want to do the best I can,” Garcia said yesterday. “Just like I try any other week. So that’s not going to change.”

Sunday’s win marked the fifth worldwide victory for the Japanese golfer in the last four months.
