2020 Vision – TaylorMade Reveals New SIM Range of Metalwoods

TaylorMade is starting the new year off with a bang, introducing their latest range of metalwoods, featuring a gorgeous design with groundbreaking technologies. Read on to find out more about the TaylorMade SIM family.

Unlock the next level of speed and forgiveness…

SIM stands for “Shape In Motion” and it comes from the range’s unique asymmetrical sole design. TaylorMade believes this will reduce aerodynamic drag in the last three feet of the downswing, maximising clubhead speed right before impact. The SIM design also features an ultra-light weight chromium carbon crown with a chalk white topline, creating a contrast with the black clubface that helps to frame the ball at address and improves alignment.

The journey to SIM began almost 15 years ago, when TaylorMade first started to develop its lightweight carbon composite technology. Using carbon materials to construct the crown and sole panelling of the new SIM design, TaylorMade engineers were able to save a considerable amount of weight, which was then redeployed into the SIM drivers.

THE SIM DRIVERS

The most critical part of the swing (the last three feet), also known as the speed generation zone, is where TaylorMade engineers have fixated their attention this time around. At the Tour level, golfers can commonly increase their speed from 90 MPH to 120 MPH during this portion of the downswing.

By using an asymmetric sole design and enhanced Inertia Generator, designers hoped to be able to improve aerodynamics and clubhead speed at this critical stage. By moving the CG projection very low, the SIM optimises launch conditions and increases MOI, providing additional forgiveness for every golfer.

TaylorMade’s Senior Director of Product Creation, Tomo Bystedt explains, “The history of driver design has been about prioritizing tradeoffs. You could have great launch conditions, but poor forgiveness. You could have great forgiveness, but at the sacrifice of distance. You could have an aerodynamic shape, but with less than optimal launch conditions. But through the use of multi-material technology, we’ve developed a new shape that optimises performance in all three areas. It’s forgiving, fast and promotes the ideal launch conditions.”

SIM

The SIM Driver allows players who crave customisation and adjustability to optimise ball flight characteristics by creating a +/- 20 yards of draw-fade bias. This is achieved using a Sliding Weight Technology and a single 10g weight.

SIM MAX

For those golfers craving more forgiveness, the SIM MAX Driver features an eight percent larger face and heavier Inertia Generator in the rear of the clubhead. Equalling more forgiveness and a slightly higher launch than the SIM.

SIM MAX D

The highest launch and the most forgiving face in the SIM family, the SIM MAX D features an 18 percent larger face than the SIM and divergent topline masking that helps to make it look more open at address.

THE SIM FAIRWAY WOODS

In an effort to achieve greatness, TaylorMade reinvented their iconic V Steel Sole Design for the SIM Fairway Woods. Giving golfers three distinct models that promise higher launch, more distance and effortless performance.

Featuring a more rounded leading edge works to improve the club’s turf interaction, while the V Steel sole further raises heel and toe sections away from the ground to improve versatility. By reducing ground friction, the SIM Fairways influence both clubhead speed and ball speed.

“For many golfers V Steel will trigger memories of an iconic product we released more than a decade ago,” says Bystedt. Adding, “As we reviewed the research used to develop the original technology, we discovered a massive benefit to having a fairway metal with significantly less turf drag through impact. By pairing V Steel with our technologically advanced materials, we’ve created fairways that are extremely playable, forgiving and provide explosive distance.”

SIM

For the first time ever TaylorMade have used the rare and ultra strong ZATECH Titanium in the SIM Fairway face. This breakthrough technology allowed TaylorMade engineers to push the limits of speed in this 180cc head, producing crazy distance with adjustability through the loft sleeve. A heavy 80g steel sole weight adds to an extremely low CG. Helping the SIM Fairway achieve increased ball speed, higher launch and improved forgiveness on low face hits.

SIM MAX

A 185cc head was made using C300 face material to create the SIM MAX Fairway. Specifically designed for high launch and peak trajectories, this club exudes extremely long distance and offers improved playability.

THE SIM MAX RESCUE

V Steel Technology is used for the first time ever in a hybrid. The SIM MAX Rescue is a long-iron replacement club and has been specifically engineered to deliver improved turf interaction and reduced friction when playing from various lies. A reshaped leading edge works in unison with the V Steel to help improve playability and strike conditions.

Suitable for every level of player, this club features a rounded toe and adjusted face angle to give golfers a more confidence-inspiring shape at address. You will also find TwistFace and Speed Pocket technologies for even more performance when and where you need it most!

The entire TaylorMade SIM family will be available next month.
