Counterbalance Putters and what they can do for Your Game

Keep reading to find out how the Counterbalance Putter can transform your putting and see the best ones that are available from GolfOnline.

In the lead up to the anchored putter ban there was a lot of talk about the counterbalance putter being the best alternative. With all the hype we were a bit skeptical but it turns out they really are quite incredible!  Offering golfers amazing feedback and straighter strokes on the greens.

The difference between a normal putter and a counterbalance putter is most often found in the weight and length of the club. More weight is added to a counterbalance head and to compensate for this extra weight more length is either added to the shaft or more weight is added to the end of the shaft.

By making the putter heavier at both ends the club’s overall MOI increases. This in turn should make your stroke play more stable and can also stop your wrists from twisting during those all-important putts.

In 2013 Justin Rose won his first major title at Merion Golf Club using a counterbalance putter. His U.S. Open win with the TaylorMade Spider Blade blew the lid off the counterbalance revolution. Today, more and more golfers are using the unique putters to ensure stability and better feel around the greens.

TaylorMade continues to churn out incredible counterbalance designs including the new OS CounterBalance Spider Putter. The club’s oversized head helps to make it extremely stable on impact while the vertical deep milled insert helps to grip the ball creating better roll off the face. Also from TaylorMade is the more traditional looking OS CounterBalance Daytona Putter. Still featuring the larger head design, the Daytona also features a vertical deep milled insert resulting in a better roll, feel and sound off the face.

Odyssey, the number 1 putter in golf, has also entered the counterbalance race. Creating a variety of designs to suit golfers of all ages and abilities. The new Odyssey Works Versa Tank Marxman Fang Putter features the brand’s latest technology including their High Def Linear Alignment. Making it easier to see the putter head through the stroke as well as encouraging a more consistent setup and alignment to the ball.

For the ultimate in customisation check out the Odyssey Tank Cruiser 1 Wide Putter. This traditional looking putter packs a whole lot of technology. Allowing you to adjust the weight in the head of the club for a better feel and greater stability.

If you’re looking for traditional style with a modern feel, Nike’s new Method Origin Flex B2-01 Putter is the perfect choice. This blade-style putter features the latest in counterbalancing technology.  Giving it a contemporary lift through a combination of polymetal grooves and an integrated RZN material across the whole of the face to increase both ball speed and control.

Scotty Cameron, one of the premiere putter brands has taken counterbalance design to new heights with the Golo 5 Dual Balance Mallet Putter. This incredible putter features the Golo Range’s first multi-material head. A combination of aircraft grade aluminum surrounded by a solid 303 stainless steel frame. This specific head design improves perimeter weighting, giving you a more stable face through impact for more forgiveness on off-centre putts as well as better distance and accuracy control.

Also from Scotty Cameron, the Select Newport 2 Notchback Dual Balance Putter has been specifically designed for those golfers who have used a longer or anchored putter in the past. Created to bridge the gap between a traditional blade and a contemporary mallet this putter packs a ton of technology. Featuring dual balance weighting, enhanced alignment, vibration damper and improved feel the Select Newport 2 represents the ultimate in counterbalance technology. Giving you exactly what you desire – enhanced stability and better repetition from your short game.
