World number one Brooks Koepka proved on Sunday that he is more than worthy of the top spot in golf, producing an incredible final round bogey-free 65 to win the WGC – FedEx St Jude Invitational.
To many it looked like Rory McIlroy would be the winner on Sunday, but the Northern Irishman who started the final round with a one-stroke lead, quickly faded behind the American who showed up just before his Sunday tee-time but promptly got to business.
Koepka’s performance during the final round was pretty much perfection. With the 29-year-old showing incredible focus as he made his way around TPC Southwind, Koepka finished the tournament three-strokes ahead of Webb Simpson as McIlroy slipped back to a T4 finish after an error-filled final round 71.
This mark’s Koepka’s seventh PGA Tour title and makes him only the fifth golfer in history to win a major and WGC event in the same season.
