Dustin Johnson Cruises to Victory and Back up to World Number One

Dustin Johnson proved he is a man on a mission as he coasted to a six-shot victory at the St. Jude Classic on Sunday and regained the number one spot in the official world golf rankings.

The 33-year-old secured his 18th PGA Tour title just four days before the start of the U.S. Open. Johnson won the major in 2016 and is hoping to carry the momentum forward to Shinnecock Hills later this week.

“Winning this week, I think, is a bigger confidence booster than being number one in the world,” Johnson told reporters on Sunday. Adding, “For me, playing the way I did all week, playing the way I did today knowing everything that was on the line, it gives me a lot of confidence going into next week.”

The super laid-back American took on TPC Southwind during the final round to post an incredible 4-under 66 for a 17-under total, six-strokes ahead of fellow American Andrew Putnam. Sunday’s stunning performance from the TaylorMade player ended with an awesome eagle on the 18th.
