Rory McIlroy Wins The Players Championship

It was a moment of redemption for Rory McIlroy, as he proved he still has what it takes to close the deal. Winning The Players Championship in style with an impressive 16-under total.

The TaylorMade player took charge on a busy Sunday to secure his first win in a year, beating American Jim Furyk by one-stroke at the legendary TPC Sawgrass. The victory marks the Northern Irishman’s 24th career title and 15th on the PGA Tour. A fitting victory for fans on Saint Patrick’s Day.

“This was one of the tournaments that I desperately wanted to win and get on my CV,” McIlroy told reporters afterwards. Adding, “It’s got the deepest field. There’s some unbelievable names on the trophy and I’m proud for my name to be among them.”

The win comes less than four weeks before McIlroy tries to land his career grand slam at The Masters. Could the win at Sawgrass be a good omen for Augusta?

“I feel like I’m playing some of the best golf of my life right now and I just need to keep doing the same things,” said the 29-year-old. “If I hadn’t won, I’d have said I didn’t need one going into Augusta but it’s nice to win on a course that will play similar to Augusta in a few weeks.”
