After a difficult third round on Saturday, the TaylorMade player proved he has what it takes to dig deep and finish strong.

“It feels great to win, “ Kitayama told reporters on Sunday. “My comeback this morning helped set up this final round. I was back in contention and with it being continuous rounds it helped me cruise into the next one.”

Over on the LPGA Tour, Sung Hyun Park secured her sixth win on Tour after an incredible performance at the HSBC Women’s Golf Championships.

Park proved she was focused and ready to take on the course at Sentosa Golf Club, where a final round 64 meant she finished two strokes ahead of Minjee Lee. The South Korean player is now firmly set on what she needs to do to keep succeeding in 2019.

“I didn’t think I would win this fast, and I’m really happy,” said Park afterwards. Adding, “I used to have a tough beginning in the last years, and this first win was so fast, I think I will play really comfortably the rest of my season.”

The 25-year-old, who is a huge Tiger Woods fan, also paid homage to her idol after her first win in 2019.

Telling reporters, “If Tiger is watching this interview, then I would want to say that because we met, you gave me such a good energy, that made me win this tournament.”

The 27-year-old managed to hold his nerve during the final round to take on power players, Rickie Fowler and Brooks Koepka. With birdies on four of his final seven holes, a 15-foot birdie putt on the last hole ensured Mitchell’s first victory was definitely sweet.

“I was trying to focus on what was going on,” Mitchell told reporters on Sunday. “My mind started wandering there a little bit at the end…and then I hit a great putt.”
