Exciting British Win and GolfOnline plays in the British Masters Pro-Am

The British Masters provided golf fans with a stellar week of play hosted by World Number Two, Justin Rose.  While the weather over the weekend made conditions a bit harsh for the players, Wednesday’s Pro-Am at the Walton Heath Golf Club was magnificent.

Before we celebrated Eddie Pepperell’s incredible wire-to-wire win, GolfOnline was busy playing in the Pro-Am with England’s Jordan Smith. We enjoyed a great day on the course, courtesy of TaylorMade Golf. Taking to the Old Course and getting a few tips from Smith, who went on to finish in a tie for third on Sunday!

Pepperell proved he’s more than a one-hit wonder, winning the British Masters on Sunday to secure his second European Tour title and hopefully an invite to next year’s Masters Tournament.

The English golfer started the final round three-shots ahead of his nearest competition, but his overnight lead quickly dwindled down to one. Leaving room for Sweden’s Alexander Bjork to edge his way in. Fortunately, an eagle on the 10th meant Pepperell was able to hold off the Swede to claim victory by one-stroke.

“The credit for the eagle goes to my mum Marian because she gave me some mittens as I was walking off the 10th tee,” said Pepperell. “It was such a tough day in the conditions, I didn’t swing it well from the get-go and it was an absolute grind.”

Pepperell‘ s victory on Sunday takes him up to 33 in the world rankings, if he can finish the year in the top-50 he will secure his first trip to Augusta next April.

“It’s always been a dream to play in the Masters and it’s been my caddie Mick’s goal to me into the top 50,” the 27-year-old told reporters yesterday. Adding, “I’m interested to see how different Augusta is to what it appears on TV and there’s going to be some nice events for me to look forward to next year. It’s going to be a great opportunity for me to go to America and play a few more majors and WGCs obviously.”
