Most fairway woods are built to launch the ball further. The Callaway Quantum Mini Spinner is built to stop it.
Callaway has added a genuinely different club to the Quantum family. The Quantum Mini Spinner is a high-lofted fairway wood designed for one specific problem: the long approach shot that lands hot, releases through the green and leaves you chipping back from the wrong side.
If you have ever stood over a 200-yard approach wishing the ball would come down like a wedge, this is the club aimed squarely at you.
The short answer
The Mini Spinner is a compact, deep-faced 7- or 9-wood with a deliberately high centre of gravity, built to generate more spin and stopping power than a long iron, hybrid or standard fairway wood.
It is £359 at GolfOnline, available to pre-order now, with stock shipping from 14 August 2026.
Built for the long approach: the Mini Spinner is aimed at the shot that usually runs through the back of the green.
Why a high centre of gravity is the whole point
This is the part that runs against everything you have been told about fairway woods. For years, the goal has been to push the centre of gravity as low and as deep as possible, because a low CG launches the ball higher with less spin. That is exactly what you want when you are chasing distance.
The Mini Spinner does the opposite. Callaway's Optimized Spin Construction pairs a high centre of gravity with an Ai-optimised high-spin face, and a lightweight carbon sole lets mass be repositioned higher in the head to raise that CG further. More spin, steeper descent, and a ball that stops when it lands.
Think of it the way strike height works on a driver. Catch one low on the face, below the CG, and it spins up. Catch one high, above the CG, and it comes out flat and hot. The Mini Spinner engineers that first outcome on purpose, so a well-struck shot climbs and lands softly rather than running out.
The four things that make it work
HighCG
Optimized Spin Construction
Built to spin, not to run
A high centre of gravity paired with an Ai-optimised high-spin face. The result is more spin, tighter dispersion and the stopping power you normally only get from a scoring club.
0.75"
Shorter setup
Shorter than a standard fairway wood
Three-quarters of an inch shorter than a traditional fairway wood, which promotes a more consistent strike and noticeably better control through the hitting zone.
Deep
Face versatility
A taller face for tougher lies
The deeper profile gives you more usable face area and more confidence over the ball, which matters most when you are trying to extract a shot from the rough rather than a perfect fairway lie.
Step
Sole design
Cleaner turf interaction
Refined specifically for the Mini Spinner, the Step Sole minimises turf drag so the club enters and exits the ground cleanly, promoting more consistent centre-face contact from any lie.
A compact, deep profile that looks more like a scoring club than a distance club behind the ball.
Who is it for, and what does it replace?
High-lofted fairway woods have become one of the biggest trends at the top of the game, with more and more players carrying a 7- or 9-wood in place of a long iron. Tour pros face long approaches into firm greens every week, but so does every club golfer playing a course that has dried out in August.
The Mini Spinner is aimed at the club in your bag that is not doing its job from distance. That is usually one of three things.
It could replace:
- A long iron you struggle to launch high enough to hold a green.
- A hybrid that flies fine but runs out too far on landing, or leaks left.
- A traditional 7- or 9-wood that launches high but lands without enough spin to stop.
The honest test is the same as with any top-of-the-bag change: does it produce a better average result on the shots you actually face? Compare descent angle and how far the ball rolls out after landing, not just carry distance. That is where this club is designed to win, and a launch monitor will show it far faster than a few range balls.
Specifications
Swipe the table sideways on smaller screens. An 11-wood (27°) is listed as a US-only option.
The lofts, lie angles and 142cc head are identical across both models. The difference is in the build: the ladies version is around an inch and a quarter shorter in each loft and comes with a lighter shaft and a women's grip as standard, so the club is easier to load and control at lower swing speeds without changing what the head is designed to do.
Stock shafts and grips
The men's build comes with a True Temper Denali Frost Silver 60g (Regular) or Mitsubishi Chemical Vanquish 50g (R2), finished with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip. The ladies build uses a lighter Mitsubishi Chemical Eldio 40g in women's flex with a Lamkin ST Soft women's grip.
Both are available as full custom builds at GolfOnline. The men's menu includes Fujikura Ventus, Project X Denali, Mitsubishi Kaili Dark Waves and Graphite Design Tour AD options; the ladies menu covers Mitsubishi Eldio, Kaili Dark Waves Red and UST Speed Star. Length, lie, flex and grip adjustments are available on both.
A note on choosing your loft. The Mini Spinner is a spin-focused club, so the shaft and loft you choose materially change what it does. If you already launch the ball high with plenty of spin, it is worth testing the 21° against the 24° to see which produces the better flight, and checking that whichever you pick genuinely gaps against the clubs either side of it in your bag.
